Description
I thought it was about time to put up something new from my more-or-less recent trip to Egypt. The current image contains the statue of the Lord of the Two Lands Ramessu-meri-Amen, also known as User-mat-setep-n-ra, but probably best known as Ramses II. The smaller statue between his legs is that of his most beloved royal wife Nefertari, for who he built the smaller temple at Abu Simbel. The statues are located in the first court of the temple of Karnak at Thebes between the first and second pylons. Building on this ancient temple dedicated to the god Amen (later to be merged with the sun god Re to form the god Amen-Re) continued during the entire dynastic history of Egypt.
